Harri Schemm (1958 - 2024)
Harri Schemm was born in 1958 in Nuremberg, Germany, where he later studied Graphic Design at the Fachhochschule Nuremberg. Before dedicating himself fully to art, he worked in a variety of professions—including bartender, bookseller, truck driver, and craftsman. These diverse experiences informed the grounded perspective and subtle humor that would later characterise his work as a painter, object maker, and performance artist.
Schemm developed a distinctive artistic language that moves freely between comic imagery and contemporary fine art. His works are characterised by a playful visual narrative, expressive line work, and an often ironic reflection on everyday life. By deliberately blurring the boundaries between popular visual culture and the traditions of painting and drawing, he created compositions that are both accessible and conceptually layered.
Over the course of his career, Schemm established himself as a recognised professional artist whose work resonates through its wit, humanity, and visual immediacy.
Harri Schemm lived and worked in Nuremberg, where he passed away in 2024.
