Margaret Majo

Margaret Majo was born in 1956 in Murewa, Zimbabwe.

After being trained in the Chinembiri Training Centre in Mbare, to learn skills and income-generating activities, Margaret Majo studied design and illustration at the Harare Polytechnic

In 1991, she had her works selected for display at the Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibitions in the National Gallery. She has since held exhibitions at several galleries.

The transformation of waste from Western zivilisation into African art is an exciting new trend in contemporary art of the continent. This also applies to the work by Margaret Majo, which has chosen bottle tops as her artistic medium. Margaret Majo is one of the first and one of the few specialising in painting bottle tops. Individually decorated with various signs and symbols that express her seemingly unlimited imagination, she arranges her "Painted-bottle tops" to images of strict symmetry.
