Renate Hammond (b. 1954)
Before moving to England in 2000 Renate Hammond lived in Germany, being both an artist and organiser of art exhibitions.
Renate Hammond studied from 1973 to1977 Design at the Fachhochschule Gestaltung in Nuremberg (Design Diploma) and from 1978 to 1984 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg (Graduate).
Renate Hammond’s work shows life satirically and has its roots in the tradition of German painters like Beckmann, Dix and Grosz.
The author Wolf Eismann once wrote: "Renate Hammond’s paintings are, in the first place, not directed at those observers who consider themselves so called art experts and who are therefore mostly particularly concerned. Rather, they are meant for those people willing to be shocked, amused or disgusted by discovering something about themselves or others. One thing is always certain. Her topics leave no one cold and that is the main thing, or is it not?"
In 2008 Renate Hammond
founded www.roomforhumour.com a visual arts project providing a platform for humour in contemporary art.
In 2019 John and Renate Hammond celebrated forty years as curators and practising artists with the opening of their private museum in Dover which houses their collection of art.
Renate Hammond lives and works in Dover, Kent, UK.
