Stefan Caltia

 

Stefan Caltia was born in 1942 in Brasov, Romania.

 

From 1959 to 1963 Stefan Caltia attended the Arts and Music high school in Timisoara having Julius Podlipny as a teacher. Stefan Caltia graduated in 1970 from the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest, having Professor Corneliu Baba as a teacher. In 1993 Stefan Caltia became professor at the National University of Fine Arts in Bucharest and in 2004 he became its vice chancellor.

 

Stefan Caltia is visionarily, ironically and satirically at the same time. His work includes oil paintings, drawings, prints and book illustrations. Stefan Caltia loves the craft and enjoys to talk about, how to prepare a canvas properly or making an etching according to the strict rules of traditional techniques.

 

Stefan Caltia’s works have been acquired by many important museums and art galleries around the world, such as the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo, Norway and the Museum of Fantastic Arts in Gruyère, Switzerland.

 

Stefan Caltia lives and workes in Bucharest.
