Otmar Alt

 

Otmar Alt was born in 1940 in Germany.

 

In 1956 Otmar Alt began an apprenticeship as a window dresser and poster artist.

 

From 1960 to 1966 Otmar Alt studied art at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin (between 1964 and 1966 he was a master student of Hermann Bachmann).

 

Otmar Alt specialises in large-scale boldly coloured sculptures, working in a variety of media including wood, bronze and porcelain.

 

In 1991 Otmar Alt was awarded with the Kulturpreis der deutschen Freimaurer. In 1994 Otmar Alt was made honorary citizen of the Ruhr and in 1998 he was decorated with the Federal Service Cross. In 2005 Otmar Alt was winner of the Steiger Award of the City of Bochum and the Kulturpreis of the City of Wernigerode. In 2010 Otmar Alt was awarded with the Ehrenring of the City of Hamm.

 

Otmar Alt lives and works in Norddinker near Hamm (Nordrhein-Westfalen), where he has settled into an old farmhouse. Next door is the building of the Otmar Alt Foundation, with exhibition areas for young artists. The Otmar Alt Foundation has set itself the task to help young, talented artists with scholarships.
