Under the sun of the Orient
Time seems to stand still in Damascus. What the Syrian painter Mamdouh Kachlan has now brought in actual impressions from his home at the Galerie am Theater, boasts an earthy Arabic charisma: the artist leads the viewer in the centre of the life of the old town. Kachlan also gives special attention to the light in his oil paintings and graphics not only the people. In oriental sun, even the houses seem to move in the narrow streets.
The show at the Königstraße 107, which ends on 25 September is the start of an exhibition tour through Europe. Three years ago, the gallery owner Renate Höllerer-Hammond had exhibited at Kachlan’s Art Gallery "Ebla" in Damascus. Both artists met each other as participants at the Biennale of satirical painting in Bulgaria, Gabrovo.
During the exhibition Mamdouh Kachlan will be available daily to answer visitors questions.
