Comical dreams
Etchings and drawings by Andreas Floris at "Kultur im Klinikum"

"Comet 1" named Andreas Floris this amusing coincidence of two natural phenomena. Reproduction: FN

A fat pink cat uses self-satisfied a round tower, which rises up in the evening sky as pedestal. It is parading and proudly hoisted its flag on its tail. Andreas Floris's aquatint etching "The cat tower" is dreamlike-bizarre.

The artist's sense of humour definitively breaks through when he adds to the fantastic ensemble a miniature mouse tower, on which a small rodent mischievously grinning satirises the cat. The Hungarian-born Floris calls these works "visions". They make up the largest part of the exhibition which is currently exhibited in the Klinikum Fürth.

The with fine lines drawn details can often only be seen on second glance but who gets oneself involved with the often caricatured images can't help a smile. The prints that are usually held in muted tones, one simply has to like.

And that's why they are suitable for the Hospital. Even where also less art-loving people stay, the cute dragons, bird-fishes and flying snails are likely to be well received.

The visions of the Erlangen-based art teachers are a not too demanding art. In contrast, there are four exciting sketches that were almost bashfully hung slightly out of the way; it was feared that the drawn studies of old and sick people could be misunderstood in a place like the hospital.

Thrillingly lifelike
In fact, the drawings, which Floris has made during a working stay in a Hamburg-based hospital, are almost disturbingly lifelike. But it is here precisely shown that the artist not only can turn ideas into images, but also has a sense of capturing moods.
