African art car

Successful transformation of an American Ford station wagon into an "Afri-Car": As of yesterday the formerly white-painted LTD model built in 1984, has been given a new colourful outfit at the Africa exhibition in the warehouse next to the Hotel Pyramide. The art car is the work of George Lilanga from Tanzania, who this time also used his widely, varied typical elongated characters as motif. The bonnet was designed by Lilanga’s native country woman Poni Yengi and shows women working in both house and field. The "Afri-Car" can be seen amidst the stone sculptures from the Tengenenge artist colony up until and including Thursday. Then owner Fred Brändlein will then preferably provide the art mobile to museums for exhibition purposes. And perhaps it can soon be admired at the Gallery Hammond in the Königstraße - if the door is large enough. Photo: Kögler
